War Over Monsanto Gets Ugly

Dr. Carrasco and a colleague locked themselves in a car as the mob yelled threats and beat on the vehicle for two hours. One delegate was hit in the spine and has since suffered lower-body paralysis. Another person was treated for blows to the head. A former provincial human rights official was hit in the face and knocked unconscious.
Witnesses said the angry crowd had ties to local officials and agribusiness bosses, and police made little effort to stop the violence, according to human rights group Amnesty International.
Carrasco is a lead embryologist at the University of Buenos Aires Medical School and the Argentinean national research council. His study, first released in 2009 and published in the United States this past summer, shows that glyphosate-based herbicides like Monsanto's popular Roundup formula caused deformations in chicken embryos that resembled the kind of birth defects being reported in areas like La Leonesa, where big agribusinesses depend on glyphosate to treat genetically engineered crops.
The deformations resulted from much lower doses of herbicide than those commonly found on crops, according to the study.
Biotech chemical giant Monsanto patented glyphosate under the trade name Roundup in the 1970's. The billion-dollar product is a main source of Monsanto's revenue and one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. One Monsanto blogger recently wrote that decades of success has made the Roundup brand name and glyphosate "interchangeable similar to the case of facial tissue and the brand name Kleenex."
Carrasco's report was largely ignored in the mainstream American media, but gained international attention among those opposed to genetically modified (GM) crops like Monstano's Roundup Ready crops, which are genetically engineered to tolerate the glyphosate-based herbicides.
The report is not the first to show that glyphosate herbicides like Roundup are more dangerous than government regulators and Monsanto have claimed, and Carrasco is not the first scientist to face intimidation after challenging the biotech industry, although he is the first to be threatened with violence.
Nevertheless, his report made an impact: journalists covered the results, environmentalists petitioned Argentina's high court to ban glyphosate and the government of the Argentinean province of Chaco began studying an eerie increase in birth defects and child cancer near the soy and rice fields sprayed with thousands of gallons of herbicide.
According to a spring 2010 report released by the Chaco government, an increase in birth defects and child cancer cases coincided with years of agricultural expansion and increased herbicide use in the province. The number of child cancer cases in La Leonesa, the small town where Carrasco and the other concerned citizens were attacked, has tripled from 2000 to 2009 and the number of birth defects in the province nearly quadrupled during that time, according to the report.
The report acknowledges that some local agribusinesses were unlawfully spraying herbicides too close to residential populations, but the Chaco study soon caught the attention of researchers across the world.
In September, an international coalition of scientists released a report citing the attack in La Leonesa and human tragedy in Chaco as proof that Roundup and genetically engineered soy crops are dangerous and unsustainable. The report provides a conclusive rebuttal to the industry's claims that spraying mutant crops with chemicals is the best way to feed the world. It's just another chapter in an information war that has raged for more than a decade, pitting independent scientists and embattled whistleblowers against the world's biggest biotech and petrochemical corporations.
Roundup and Monsanto
Monsanto has gained much of its international notoriety - or infamy, depending on whom you talk to - through its Roundup Ready line of crops that are genetically modified (GM) to be immune to the herbicide. To use the herbicide to combat weeds, farmers must buy patented Monsanto GM seeds with the genetic herbicide tolerant trait. Roundup herbicide is then sprayed to kill unwanted weeds, but the patented GM crops are spared.
The Roundup Ready crop system was first made available in 1996. Since 2000, the percentage of Roundup Ready corn grown in the United States has exploded from 7 to 70 percent and now 93 percent of the soybeans grown in the US are GM, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Roundup accounts for about 40 percent of Monsanto's annual revenues and is sprayed on about 12 million acres of American farmland each year. In April, Monsanto announced the completion of a $200 million expansion of its glyphosate production facility in Louisiana.
Monsanto's Roundup Ready patent runs out in 2014, and the Justice Department began an antitrust investigation of Monsanto this year as its petrochemical competitors like DuPont clamor for a piece of the action. Monsanto has proven its tenacity in such disputes in the past; it forged new legal territory in the past decade, suing small farmers who saved Roundup Ready seeds or simply grew crops infected with GM traits after the patented Monsanto gene drifted and multiplied in their fields.
Superweeds
Monsanto's domination of domestic agriculture has had a startling side effect in the fields: the rise of new glyphosate resistant weeds commonly called "superweeds." Like the GM corn and soy, these weeds have bred themselves to tolerate Roundup and are invading farms across the country.
Monsanto shocked investors and environmentalists in October by announcing a new program that offers millions of dollars in rebates to farmers who combine Roundup with more herbicides manufactured by the company's competitors to combat the glyphosate-resistant weeds threatening GM crops across the country.
The mere presence of superweeds and the fact that Monsanto is now paying farmers to spray additional chemicals that are more toxic than Roundup, is evidence of a complete regulatory breakdown, according to watchdog group Center for Food Safety (CFS).
In his September 30 testimony to Congress on superweeds, CFS senior policy analyst William Freese said that the USDA regulates GM crops and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates herbicides, but there is no regulation of the combined system.
"And it is the system - the invariable use of glyphosate made possible and fostered by glyphosate-resistant seeds, for instance - that is responsible for the growing epidemic of glyphosate-resistant (GR) weeds," Freese said in his testimony. "This is clearly demonstrated by the near complete absence of GR weeds for the first 20 plus years of glyphosate's use and the explosion of weed resistance in the decade since the widespread adoption of Roundup Ready crop systems."
Debate Gets Ugly
Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, has long been considered less toxic than other herbicides. The EPA considers glyphosate a noncarcinogen for humans and a chemical of relatively low toxicity.
Monsanto took the EPA's initial evaluation and ran with it, and in 1996, the state of New York filed a lawsuit against Monsanto over an advertising campaign that claimed Roundup to be as safe as table salt.
In recent years, teams of independent scientists like Carrasco's have come forward with studies showing that Roundup and glyphosate is more toxic than the regulators will admit. For years, Roundup critics charged that the "inert" ingredients like surfactants and solvents in Roundup and other glyphosate herbicides make the products more toxic to people and the environment.
Carrasco's report, on the other hand, showed that glyphosate itself caused malformations in embryos similar to those found in humans who live in agricultural areas dominated by genetically engineered crops. The report establishes that the toxic "inert" ingredients made it easier for the glyphosate to invade cells and cause damage.
But Carrasco is not the first scientist to identify this relationship between glyphosate and Roundup's "inert" ingredients.
Jeffrey Smith, GM critic and author of the books "Seeds of Deception" and "Genetic Roulette," told Truthout that many scientists have been verbally threatened and denied tenure for publishing studies critical of Roundup and GM crops.
"The attack [on Carrasco] is the latest in a series of attempts to silence those who have discovered problems with Roundup," Smith said.
Smith rattled off a list of scientists from Russia, Britain, the US, and beyond who have faced some kind of intimidation after going public with research on problems with GM foods and chemical products, including researcher Arpad Pusztai, who was famously relieved from his long-time position at a prominent Scottish research center in 1998 shortly after making public comments on potential problems with GM.
Smith is currently working with an international effort to support Gilles-Eric Seralini, a scientist at the University of Caen in France.
In 2009, Seralini and his team released a study showing that four different Roundup formulations diluted below suggested agricultural levels killed human placenta, umbilical chord and embryo cells.
"This clearly confirms that the [inert ingredients] in Roundup formulations are not inert," Seralini's team wrote. "Moreover, the proprietary mixtures available on the market could cause cell damage and even death around residual levels to be expected, especially in food and feed derived from [Roundup-treated] crops."
Carrasco cited Seralini's work in his groundbreaking study on glyphosate and birth defects.
Monsanto responded by calling Seralini's research "political" and argued that the conditions of the study did not reflect real life conditions. One Monsanto blogger even compared a key "inert" ingredient identified by Seralini's study to household soap.
Seralini and his team took on Monsanto again last year with a counteranalysis of lab data provided by Monsanto on the effects of three GM corn strains on lab rats. Seralini obtained the data after a German court ordered Monsanto to hand it over for review. Seralini's team discovered that the original study poorly constructed and the results reported by Monsanto were misleading.
Seralini had basically refuted Monsanto's ability to formally prove its GM products to be safe and that didn't sit well with his peers who supported the industry.
Pro-GM scientists in France, including Seralini's former colleague Marc Fellous of the French Association of Plant Biotechnology (AFBV), have since made public statements questioning Seralini's credibility and calling him a "merchant of fear," according to Seralini's supporters in the European scientific community.
Smith said that the intimidation of scientists conducting independent research, whether coming from the industry or its researchers, sends a dangerous message to other scientists.
"There is an attitude that, if you dare do research in the field, then you are threatening your work and credibility," Smith said.
As for Carrasco, the attack in La Leonesa did not keep him from speaking out. In September, just one month after being confronted by an angry mob, Carrasco was a featured speaker at the GMO-Free Europe conference.
Carrasco did not respond to a request for an interview.
Carrasco has his work cut out for him. On October 13, just days before initiating the plan to pay American farmers to use more herbicides, Monsanto announced that two more GM crops were approved in Argentina, according to a press release. Like the US, large Latin American countries like Argentina and Brazil are key growth markets for Monsanto.
This is the challenge facing Carrasco, Seralini, and others who use science to hold the biotech industry accountable for its push for control over the future of agriculture. Their stories show that taking on powerful financial interests of massive global corporations can be a difficult - and even dangerous - task: a war of information between those in search of profit and those in search of truth.

A report by Jeremy Scahill in The Nation (Blackwater's Black Ops, 9/15/2010) revealed that the largest mercenary army in the world, Blackwater (now called Xe Services) clandestine intelligence services was sold to the multinational Monsanto. Blackwater was renamed in 2009 after becoming famous in the world with numerous reports of abuses in Iraq, including massacres of civilians. It remains the largest private contractor of the U.S. Department of State "security services," that practices state terrorism by giving the government the opportunity to deny it.
Many military and former CIA officers work for Blackwater or related companies created to divert attention from their bad reputation and make more profit selling their nefarious services-ranging from information and intelligence to infiltration, political lobbying and paramilitary training - for other governments, banks and multinational corporations. According to Scahill, business with multinationals, like Monsanto, Chevron, and financial giants such as Barclays and Deutsche Bank, are channeled through two companies owned by Erik Prince, owner of Blackwater: Total Intelligence Solutions and Terrorism Research Center. These officers and directors share Blackwater.
One of them, Cofer Black, known for his brutality as one of the directors of the CIA, was the one who made contact with Monsanto in 2008 as director of Total Intelligence, entering into the contract with the company to spy on and infiltrate organizations of animal rights activists, anti-GM and other dirty activities of the biotech giant.
Contacted by Scahill, the Monsanto executive Kevin Wilson declined to comment, but later confirmed to The Nation that they had hired Total Intelligence in 2008 and 2009, according to Monsanto only to keep track of "public disclosure" of its opponents. He also said that Total Intelligence was a "totally separate entity from Blackwater."
However, Scahill has copies of emails from Cofer Black after the meeting with Wilson for Monsanto, where he explains to other former CIA agents, using their Blackwater e-mails, that the discussion with Wilson was that Total Intelligence had become "Monsanto's intelligence arm," spying on activists and other actions, including "our people to legally integrate these groups." Total Intelligence Monsanto paid $ 127,000 in 2008 and $ 105,000 in 2009.
No wonder that a company engaged in the "science of death" as Monsanto, which has been dedicated from the outset to produce toxic poisons spilling from Agent Orange to PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), pesticides, hormones and genetically modified seeds, is associated with another company of thugs.
Almost simultaneously with the publication of this article in The Nation, the Via Campesina reported the purchase of 500,000 shares of Monsanto, for more than $23 million by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which with this action completed the outing of the mask of "philanthropy." Another association that is not surprising.
It is a marriage between the two most brutal monopolies in the history of industrialism: Bill Gates controls more than 90 percent of the market share of proprietary computing and Monsanto about 90 percent of the global transgenic seed market and most global commercial seed. There does not exist in any other industrial sector monopolies so vast, whose very existence is a negation of the vaunted principle of "market competition" of capitalism. Both Gates and Monsanto are very aggressive in defending their ill-gotten monopolies.
Although Bill Gates might try to say that the Foundation is not linked to his business, all it proves is the opposite: most of their donations end up favoring the commercial investments of the tycoon, not really "donating" anything, but instead of paying taxes to the state coffers, he invests his profits in where it is favorable to him economically, including propaganda from their supposed good intentions. On the contrary, their "donations" finance projects as destructive as geoengineering or replacement of natural community medicines for high-tech patented medicines in the poorest areas of the world. What a coincidence, former Secretary of Health Julio Frenk and Ernesto Zedillo are advisers of the Foundation.
Like Monsanto, Gates is also engaged in trying to destroy rural farming worldwide, mainly through the "Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa" (AGRA). It works as a Trojan horse to deprive poor African farmers of their traditional seeds, replacing them with the seeds of their companies first, finally by genetically modified (GM). To this end, the Foundation hired Robert Horsch in 2006, the director of Monsanto. Now Gates, airing major profits, went straight to the source.
Blackwater, Monsanto and Gates are three sides of the same figure: the war machine on the planet and most people who inhabit it, are peasants, indigenous communities, people who want to share information and knowledge or any other who does not want to be in the aegis of profit and the destructiveness of capitalism.

Κάθε διαδικασία της ζωής συνοδεύεται από ακτινοβολίες φωτός. Ο γιατρός και φωτοβιολόγος Alexander Wunsch είχε γράψει σχετικά: «Το φως είναι η γλώσσα της ύλης. Τα φωτόνια δίνουν τις πληροφορίες για κάθετι που σχετίζεται άτομα ή μόρια.»
Κάθε χημική αντίδραση, όπως και κάθε ενεργειακή αλλαγή σε ένα άτομο, οδηγεί σε εκπομπή ακτινοβολίας, το μήκος κύματος της οποίας μπορεί να βρίσκεται ακόμη και στο ορατό πεδίο.
Με άλλα λόγια οι διαδικασίες που διέπουν ένα άτομο ή ένα κύτταρο μπορούν να περιγραφούν, εκτός από τον τρόπο της χημείας και μέσω των φωτονίων –δηλαδή μέσω συγκεκριμένων ακτινοβολιών.
Για τις βάσεις αυτής της γνώσης είχε μάλιστα απονεμηθεί βραβείο Νόμπελ στον Αϊνσταιν το 1921. Δεν εννοούμε φυσικά τη θεωρία της σχετικότητας, η οποία έχει συνδεθεί άμεσα με το όνομα του, αλλά την περιγραφή της φωτοηλεκτρικής επίδρασης: π.χ. εάν ακτινοβοληθεί ένα μεταλλικό ηλεκτρόδιο με αρκετή φωτεινή ακτινοβολία, θα αποσπαστούν ηλεκτρόνια από την μεταλλική του επιφάνεια. Η ταχύτητα των απελευθερωμένων ηλεκτονίων εξαρτάται από το χρώμα του φωτός –φάσμα- που χρησιμοποιήθηκε. Αυτό το πείραμα του Αϊνστάιν αποτελεί τη βάση της μοντέρνας κβαντικής φυσικής.
Σήμερα γνωρίζουμε πως τέτοια φωτοηλεκτρικά φαινόμενα εμφανίζονται και σε ημιαγώγιμα υλικά όπως και σε φωτονικούς κρυστάλλους. Επειδή ακριβώς η εξωτερική μεμβράνη των κυττάρων –το «δέρμα» του κυττάρου- εμφανίζει ιδιότητες όμοοιες με αυτές ενός ημιαγωγού, πιστεύουν οι ερευνητές του φωτός, πως το φως του ήλιου μπορεί να προκαλεί αντιδράσεις σε κυτταρικό επίπεδο. Το φως του ήλιου μάλιστα, είναι γνωστό πως δεν λαμβάνεται μόνο μέσω των οφθαλμών, αλλά και μέσω του δέρματος μας και φτάνει δίχως πρόβλημα στο λιπώδη ιστό. Ακόμη και το κρανίο και ο εγκέφαλος μας είναι διαπερατοί στο ηλιακό φως.
‘Ετσι γίνεται κατά κάποιο τρόπο λογική η σκέψη πως η σύνθεση του ηλιακού φωτός, στις εξωτερικές στοιβάδες του ανθρώπινου δέρματος, επιρρεάζει την κατανομή των ιόντων ανάμεσα στις βιολογικές μεμβράνες –τα τοιχώματα των κυττάρων. Στις μεμβράνες αυτές λαμβάνουν χώρα σημαντικές μεταβολικές διαδικασίες. Κάποια συγκεκριμένα στοιχεία πρέπει να μπορούν να εισχωρούν μέσα στο κύτταρο, ενώ αντίθετα άλλες ουσίες θα πρέπει να μπλοκάρονται. Τέτοιες διεργασίες λαμβάνουν χώρα και σε συγκεκριμένα στρώματα του δέρματος μας.
Κι έτσι είναι περισσότερο από πιθανή η περίπτωση να παίζει σημαντικό ρόλο στην παραπάνω διαδικασία το φάσμα του φωτός – δηλαδή το χρώμα του – που καταφτάνει εκεί. Ειδικά στις περιπτώσεις όπου κάποια ποσοστά χρώματος υπερισχύουν ή απουσιάζουν.
Εκτός από την ποιότητα του χρώματος και η ένταση του φωτός παίζει σημαντικό ρόλο και ρυθμίζει τον μεταβολισμό του κυττάρου. Ιδιαίτερα έντονη επίδραση μάλιστα στις βιολογικές διεργασίες των κυττάρων έχουν οι ακμές (δηλ. οι έντονες ενεργειακές ωθήσεις) ή τα ‘κενά’ (δηλ. η ιδιαίτερη απουσία ενεργειακών ωθήσεων) που μπορεί να περιλαμβάνονται στο φάσμα του φωτός. Κι έτσι επανερχόμαστε στο ζήτημα του δυσαρμονικού φάσματος φωτός των λαμπτήρων φθορισμού και κατ΄επέκταση τις λεγόμενες λάμπες «εξοικονόμησης ενέργειας»
Βέβαια και το ηλιακό φως παρουσιάζει κάποια φυσικά κενά στο φάσμα του, τα οποία φαίνονται στο φασματογράφο ως μαύρες γραμμές. Αυτές είναι γνωστές ως «γραμμές Frauenhofer».
Ο ακόλουθος ‘κβαντο-οπτικός’ μηχανισμός, μολονότι δεν έχει διερευνηθεί σε απόλυτο βαθμό, δίνει τα παρακάτω συμπεράσματα:
Ένα ιόν, η δόνηση του οποίου λίγο πολύ ταιριάζει με κάποιο κενό του ηλιακού φωτός –τις λεγόμενες γραμμές διάθλασης Frauenhofer- μπορεί να διαπερνά ευκολότερα και τις κυτταρικές μεμβράνες. Μία γραμμή εκπομπών όμως, δηλαδή μία ιδιαίτερα έντονη ακτινοβολία ενός συγκεκριμένου φάσματος/χρώματος φωτός δεν μπορεί να τη διαπεράσει εύκολα. «Έτσι οι γραμμές Frauenhofer είναι σαν να εμφανίζουν ένα είδος «αναρρόφησης» για τα αντίστοιχα μόρια, ενώ αντίθετα οι γραμμές εκπομπών διαφόρων στοιχείων ασκούν ένα είδος φωτεινού μποκαρίσματος» εξηγεί οAlexander Wunsch.
Για τον Wunsch είναι σαφές πως τα μαύρα κενά που εμφανίζει στο φάσμα του το ηλιακό φως, αποτελούν μία καθορισμένη πληροφορία που αφορά την κατανομή διαφόρων χημικών στοιχείων στο σώμα, πράγμα που με τη σειρά του επηρεάζει το μεταβολισμό μας.
Αυτή την ιδιότητα του ηλιακού φωτός χρησιμοποιεί η «ηλιοθεραπεία»*, η ιατρική αγωγή με ηλιακό φως. Εάν εφαρμόζεται σωστά, οδηγεί πάντα σε μία αρμονική εξισσορόπιση του σώματος, ασχέτως εάν εφαρμόζεται για την αντιμετώπιση μίας υπερδραστηριότητας ή μιας υπολειτουργίας της διαδικασίας μεταβολισμού. Το ηλιακό φως περιέχει το πρόγραμμα της ζωής (!)
Εάν λοιπόν τα κενά που εμφανίζονται στο φάσμα του ηλιακού φωτός υπποστηρίζουν συγκεκριμένες μεταβολιστικές διεργασίες του σώματος, θα μπορούσαμε λογικά να συμπεράνουμε πως οι φωτεινές ακμές –ειδικά αυτές των λαμπτήρων φθορισμού/ εξοικονόμησης ενέργειας- δρουν ανασταλτικά σε ορισμένες χημικές διεργασίες. Σε αντίθεση με το φυσικό ηλιακό φως, όπου μόνο η υπερβολική ποσότητα μπορεί να είναι αρνητική, το φως των λαμπτήρων φθορισμού είναι βλαβερό για τον οργανισμό ανεξάρτητα από την «δόση» και αυτό, διότι περιέχει ένα φάσμα, το οποίο δεν υπάρχει σε αυτή τη μορφή στη φύση και στο οποίο το σώμα δεν είναι προσαρμοσμένο.

Παράνομη η χρήση θεραπευτικών φυτών με απόφαση της Ε.Ε.
Μια νέα επίθεση των κερδοσκοπικών φαρμακοβιομηχανιών κατά της υγείας.
Η οδηγία T.H.M.P.D. της Ε.Ε. (Traditional Herbal Medical Product Directive), της οποίας οι κανονισμοί τίθενται σε ισχύ από τον Απρίλιο του 2011, θα σημάνει το τέλος για πολλά συμπληρώματα διατροφής καθώς και για τα θεραπευτικά βότανα.
Η οδηγία αυτή της ΕΕ, θα αποτελέσει πλήγμα και για τις θεραπείες της εναλλακτικής ιατρικής οι οποίες βασίζονται κυρίως στη χρήση αυτού του είδους θεραπευτικών μέσων, τα οποία έχουν εξάλλου πανάρχαια παράδοση στην αποκατάσταση και διατήρηση της υγείας.
Τα φάρμακα από τη φύση ήταν ανέκαθεν ένα αγκάθι για τις φαρμακοβιομηχανίες. Είναι τοις πάσι γνωστό εντούτοις πως τα θεραπευτικά φυτά χαρίζουν υγεία. Όταν γίνεται σωστή χρήση δεν έχουν καμία ή μόνο ελαφρές, ακίνδυνες παρενέργειες, και κάθε άτομο μπορεί να τις χρησιμοποιήσει ελεύθερα, μιας και δεν υπόκεινται σε κανόνες …copyright.
Το «πρόβλημα» βρίσκεται μόνο στο ότι δεν μπορούν να γίνουν «κερδοφόρα προϊόντα» για τις φαρμακοβιομηχανίες και αυτός είναι ο λόγος για τον οποίο θέλουν να εμποδίσουν την χρησιμοποίησή τους. Ήταν θέμα χρόνου το να δρομολογηθεί η απαγόρευσή τους και να τιμωρείται μάλιστα η ιατρική τους χρήση.
Το απολυταρχικό καθεστώς της διεθνούς κερδοσκοπίας σε όλο του το «μεγαλείο»!

Οι περικοπές του κοινωνικού κράτους κοστίζουν ζωές, δείχνει νέα έρευνα
«Απλοί άνθρωποι μπορεί να πληρώσουν το τελικό τίμημα για τις περικοπές του προϋπολογισμού, φθάνοντας ακόμα και στο σημείο να χάσουν τη ζωή τους».
Οι περικοπές δαπανών στο πλαίσιο του περιορισμού των κοινωνικών παροχών, στις οποίες έχουν προχωρήσει πολλές ευρωπαϊκές κυβερνήσεις, με στόχο να θέσουν υπό έλεγχο τα μεγάλα δημόσια ελλείμματά τους, έχουν μετρήσιμες επιπτώσεις στην υγεία και μπορεί να κοστίσουν μέχρι και ζωές πολιτών, σύμφωνα με μια νέα βρετανική επιστημονική έρευνα.
Οι ερευνητές του πανεπιστημίου της Οξφόρδης, υπό τον κοινωνιολόγο Ντέηβιντ Στάκλερ, παρουσίασαν σχετική μελέτη στο βρετανικό ιατρικό περιοδικό British Medical Journal, σύμφωνα με το πρακτορείο Ρόιτερ, στην οποία αναφέρουν ότι τα επίπεδα κοινωνικών παροχών (δαπανών) σχετίζονται στενά με αυξημένο κίνδυνο πρόωρου θανάτου, ιδίως από ασθένειες όπως η καρδιοπάθεια και ο αλκοολισμός.
Η ομάδα του Στάκλερ μελέτησε στοιχεία του ΟΟΣΑ για την εξέλιξη των κοινωνικών δαπανών, σε σύγκριση με τα προβλήματα υγείας και τους θανάτους σε 15 ευρωπαϊκές χώρες μεταξύ των ετών 1980 - 2005. Αναλύοντας τις διαχρονικές τάσεις, οι ερευνητές συμπέραναν ότι όταν οι δημόσιες κοινωνικές παροχές (δαπάνες) ήσαν υψηλές, οι θάνατοι μειώνονταν, ενώ όταν οι δαπάνες περικόπτονταν, οι θάνατοι αυξάνονταν σημαντικά.
Η έρευνα υπολόγισε ότι, κατά προσέγγιση, για κάθε 80 ευρώ ανά άτομο που περικόπτονται από τις κοινωνικές δαπάνες του κράτους, οι θάνατοι που σχετίζονται με τον αλκοολισμό, αυξάνονται κατά 2,8% και οι θάνατοι από καρδιά κατά 1,2% περίπου.
«Η μελέτη αποκαλύπτει ότι οι απλοί άνθρωποι μπορεί να πληρώσουν το τελικό τίμημα για τις περικοπές του προϋπολογισμού, φθάνοντας ακόμα και στο σημείο να χάσουν τη ζωή τους», δήλωσε ο Στάκλερ.

ΥΓΕΙΑ ΩΡΑ 0: Ο ΓΙΑΤΡΟΣ, οι "γιατροί" και ο πολίτης
"Από το τέλος Ιούνη κλείνουν τα νοσοκομεία όλης της χώρας.
ΤΟ ΕΘΝΙΚΟ "ΣΥΣΤΗΜΑ" ΥΓΕΙΑΣ ΜΕΣΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΑ ΜΑΤΙΑ ΕΝΟΣ ΝΕΟΥ ΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΟΝΑ.
ΑΚΟΥΣΤΕ ΑΥΤΟΝ ΚΑΙ ΟΧΙ ΤΑ ΜΜΕ ΠΟΥ ΠΡΟΒΑΛΛΟΥΝ ΜΟΝΟ ΤΙΣ ΜΙΖΕΣ ΤΩΝ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΓΙΑΤΡΩΝ ΜΕ ΣΤΟΧΟ ΝΑ ΠΡΟΩΘΗΣΟΥΝ ΤΗΝ ΠΛΗΡΗ ΙΔΙΩΤΙΚΟΠΟΙΗΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΥΓΕΙΑΣ.

"Κλείνουν τα νοσοκομεία!!!"Η ηγεσία του υπουργείου υγείας, με τη συμβολή των ευφάνταστων συμβούλων της, που αμοίβονται υπερωριακά 100 ώρες κάθε μήνα, έφτασε τη χυδαιότητα και τον παραλογισμό σε άλλα επίπεδα...
ΑΠΟΦΑΣΙΣΑΝ ΜΕ ΕΝΑ ΝΕΟ ΝΟΜΟ ΝΑ ΚΟΨΟΥΝ ΤΙΣ ΕΦΗΜΕΡΙΕΣ ΚΑΙ ΝΑ ΒΑΛΟΥΝ ΤΟΥΣ ΓΙΑΤΡΟΥΣ ΝΑ ΔΟΥΛΕΥΟΥΝ ΔΩΡΕΑΝ!
Κι αν κανένας αρχίσει τα "οι γιατροί τα παίρνουν", "κάθονται και δεν δουλεύουν", ή "ζουν για τα φακελάκια και τα μπόνους από τους φαρμακάδες", τότε να ξέρει πως αυτά τα γράφει ένας ειδικευόμενος που ΔΕΝ ΧΡΗΜΑΤΙΖΕΤΑΙ, ΤΟΥ ΒΓΑΙΝΕΙ ΤΟ ΛΑΔΙ ΣΕ ΚΑΘΕ ΕΦΗΜΕΡΙΑ ΚΑΙ ΑΜΟΙΒΕΤΑΙ ΜΕ ΤΟ ΑΣΤΡΟΝΟΜΙΚΟ ΠΟΣΟ ΤΩΝ 3,6 € ΤΗΝ ΩΡΑ.
Αλλά φαίνεται πως αυτά τα 3,6 ευρώ την ώρα είναι υπέρογκο ποσό και το υπουργείο με ένα νέο νόμο θα μας βάλει να εφημερεύουμε με 2 ευρώ την ώρα, σε όσες έφημερίες χρειάζεται, ώστε να δείξει πως νοιάζεται για την υγεία του απλού πολίτη.
Ο νέος νόμος λέει δηλαδή πως όλοι οι ειδικευόμενοι γιατροί θα αμοίβονται με αυτό το ποσό και θα κάνουν 7 εφημερίες κάθε μήνα, ενώ αν χρειάζεται θα κάνουν και περισσότερες.
Δηλαδή θα μπαίνει κανείς το πρωί της Δευτέρας και θα βγαίνει την άλλη Δευτέρα την επόμενη βδομάδα, αν θέλει να τις κάνει όλες μαζί.
Και αυτό που δεν ξέρουν οι περισσότεροι είναι πως εδώ και 2 χρόνια, ο Νόμος στην Ελλάδα και όλη την Ευρώπη λέει πως οι γιατροί ΔΕΝ ΕΠΙΤΡΕΠΕΤΑΙ να εφημερεύουν πάνω από 4 εφημερίες το μήνα, επειδή ΚΑΤΙ ΤΕΤΟΙΟ ΕΙΝΑΙ ΕΠΙΚΙΝΔΥΝΟ ΓΙΑ ΤΟΥΣ ΑΣΘΕΝΕΙΣ.
Αλλά εδώ και 2 χρόνια ήμασταν ΗΛΙΘΙΟΙ και κάναμε την ανάγκη φιλότιμο και συμφωνήσαμε να δουλεύουμε σαν τα ζώα, έτσι ώστε να μπορέσει το υπουργείο να προσλάβει τους γιατρούς που χρειάζεται ώστε να καλυφθούν τα κενά στα νοσοκομεία και να μην κλείσουν. Και η απάντηση του υπουργείου είναι αυτή. Ε, ΟΧΙ ΛΟΙΠΟΝ!!!
ΚΑΙ ΑΝ ΕΙΠΩΘΕΙ ΠΩΣ ΚΑΤΙ ΤΕΤΟΙΟ ΔΕΝ ΕΊΝΑΙ ΣΩΣΤΟ, ΤΟΤΕ ΔΕΙΞΤΕ ΜΟΥ ΕΝΑ ΕΡΓΑΖΟΜΕΝΟ ΠΟΥ ΔΟΥΛΕΥΕΙ ΤΖΑΜΠΑ ΚΑΙ ΕΙΝΑΙ ΣΥΝΕΧΕΙΑ ΣΤΗ ΔΟΥΛΕΙΑ ΤΟΥ, ΠΟΥ ΕΧΕΙ ΞΕΧΑΣΕΙ ΤΙ ΣΗΜΑΙΝΕΙ ΥΠΝΟΣ Ή ΔΙΑΚΟΠΕΣ και τότε ας τολμήσει να κάνει κριτική σε αυτά που γράφω.
Στα νοσοκομεία υπάρχουν φακελάκια, γιατροί που εφημερεύουν από το σπίτι τους και ΠΛΗΡΩΝΟΝΤΑΙ και ένα σωρό άλλοι νοσηλευτές και τραυματιοφορείς που βάζουν το βύσμα τους να τους μεταφέρει σε άλλες διοικητικές θέσεις και σε άλλες υπηρεσίες (35%!!!), με αποτέλεσμα να έχουμε μείνει εμείς οι "χαρωποί μαμάκες" να προσπαθούμε να εξυπηρετήσουμε τις φροντίδες υγείας κάθε άτυχου πολίτη που χρειάζεται τη βοήθεια μας και ΕΧΕΙ ΧΡΥΣΟΠΛΗΡΩΣΕΙ (αυτές τις φροντίδες) ΜΕ ΤΙΣ ΚΡΑΤΗΣΕΙΣ ΑΠΟ ΤΗ ΔΟΥΛΕΙΑ ΤΟΥ ΚΑΘΕ ΜΗΝΑ.
Ε, ΩΣ ΕΔΏ ΠΙΑ. Όλα τα πράγματα έχουν κάποιο όριο πιά και αυτό έχει ξεπεραστεί προ πολλού.

Μεταλλαγμένα: Νέος Οδηγός Καταναλωτών
Γιατί και εσύ τρως ότι τρώει! Τρέφονται με μεταλλαγμένες ζωοτροφές τα ζώα από τα οποία παράγονται τα βασικά προϊόντα διατροφής που καταναλώνουμε; Πως ανταποκρίνονται οι εταιρίες παραγωγής των προϊόντων αυτών, στο αίτημα της Greenpeace για αποκλεισμό των μεταλλαγμένων από τις ζωοτροφές;
Πώς μπορεί ο καταναλωτής να γνωρίζει αν το ζωικό προϊόν που επέλεξε, προέρχεται από ζώα που έχουν τραφεί με μεταλλαγμένα και που καταλήγουν έτσι έμμεσα στο πιάτο του;
Η νέα έκδοση του Οδηγού Καταναλωτών της Greenpeace, περιλαμβάνει τις απαραίτητες πληροφορίες σχετικά με τη χρήση μεταλλαγμένων στις ζωοτροφές, γιατί πολύ απλά: Τρώμε ό,τι τρώνε!!!
Σε αυτή την έκδοση, για πρώτη φορά αποτυπώνεται και η πρόοδος της κάθε εταιρίας σε σχέση με την προηγούμενη επίδοσή της γύρω από τη χρήση μεταλλαγμένων στις ζωοτροφές, ενώ η κατηγορία του γάλακτος εμπλουτίστηκε και διαχωρίστηκε σε 3 ξεχωριστές κατηγορίες, δηλαδή σε: φρέσκο, υψηλής παστερίωσης και μακράς διαρκείας.

Το Σάββατο 15 και την Κυριακή 16 Μαΐου από τις 10 το πρωί έως τις 6 το απόγευμα, οι οινοπαραγωγοί των Δρόμων του Κρασιού της Ελλάδας περιμένουν το οινόφιλο κοινό στα επισκέψιμα οινοποιεία τους για ξεναγήσεις, γευστικές δοκιμές, εκδηλώσεις και εκπλήξεις!
Ιδιαίτερα κρασιά, σπάνιες ετικέτες, ξεχασμένες ποικιλίες που αναβιώνουν και πάλι, παλαιές σοδειές, φρέσκα κρασιά του τρύγου 2009 και αμπελοοινικά αποστάγματα, στη διάθεση του κοινού.

Κόψτε το aftershave και το aftersun, afterall!
Είστε αξύριστοι απο τόν καιρό του Νώε? (ή ...του Δευκαλιώνα πιο ελληνιστί)? Τα γένια σας είναι σαν ...τσουγκράνα? Μήπως όταν ξυρίζεστε το δέρμα σας γίνεται σαν ναρκοπέδιο? ΟΧΙ ΠΙΑ!
Το Aman Teleshopping, εεε... το Radio Hypethros προτείνει: ΚΟΨΤΕ ΤΟ AFTERSHAVE! Αντ' αυτού ΒΑΛΤΕ ΑΛΟΗ!
Πως γίνεται: 1. Αγοράζετε μια γλάστρα με Αλόη Βέρα. 2. Κόβετε ένα φύλλο και το βάζετε στο ψυγείο. 3. Όταν τελειώσετε με το ξύρισμα, κόβετε ένα κομματάκι απο το φύλλο της Αλόης, το ανοίγεται στα δύο. 4. Αλείφετε το δέρμα σας με το εσωτερικό του φύλλου που έχει κολλώδη υφή (σαν τζελ).
Τέλος οι ερεθισμοί, τέλος τα χημικά (και γλιτώνεις και κάνα φράγκο εν' όψει της οικονομικής κρίσης)!
Οι χρήσεις της Αλόης είναι πολυάριθμες (πχ για εγκαύματα μετά τον ήλιο, για επούλωση τραυμάτων κλπ). Οπότε με μόνο ένα φυτό μπορείς να γλιτώσεις χρήματα απο πολλά καλλυντικά προϊόντα που αγοράζεις πανακριβα.
